Acolytes

The Acolytes of Saint Mark's are engaged in a mission of Divine service at God's altar in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

It is desirable that the priest be assisted by an acolyte at most celebrations, services, and rites. It is very important for acolytes to know the order of service as well as their particular assignments.

All youngsters, old and young alike, are encouraged to participate in this ministry. Training not only consists of learning the proper ecclesiastical movement and the handling of liturgical hardware, but also a study of church architecture, and the symbolism and origin of liturgical practice.

Fellowship Club

The purpose of this group is to promote fellowship, new friendships and social contact in a Christian context. Many fun-filled events are planned all during each year. We are responsible for the Sunday coffee hours which are manned by volunteers of all ages. Our fundraisers allow us to help support the Church. We generally meet the fourth Friday of each month beginning with a social hour at 6:00 p.m. and a potluck dinner at 7:00 p.m., with a program following dinner. We welcome all who would like to join us.

St. Laurence’s Guild

The members of St. Laurence's Guild provide monthly meals for the St. Mark's parish family. The menus vary monthly and have included meat, fish, pasta, ethnic meals, barbecue and pot lucks. A modest donation is requested, but all are welcome regardless of ability to pay. St. Laurence's in-reach ministry brings the members of the parish and guests together in fellowship around food. Whatever monies the Guild receives that are not spent on the meals are donated to the various out-reach feeding ministries in which parish members participate, including St. Swithin's, Food for Body and Soul, Project New Hope and our own food pantry.

New members are always welcome. All it takes is a love of food, and willingness to help one Sunday each month either by cooking, purchasing food and supplies, setting up for the meals or cleaning up afterward.

St. Phillip's Guild (Greeters)

Our mission is a ministry dedicated to making all people feel welcome when they attend a service at St. Mark's.  There are no group meetings.  Ushering teams carry out the duties of greeting and ushering at the 8AM and 10AM services, as well as at funerals and special holiday services, e.g. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.  Each team is assigned 1 Sunday a month.

Membership is voluntary, singles or couples, ages 15 and up.

Being an Usher/Greeter is a great way for individuals and couples who are relatively new to St. Mark's  to get involved and to get to know members of the parish family.  It takes relatively little time (1 Sunday a month) and the tasks are easy to learn.
